PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the burden on a worker and to shorten the time by automatically adjusting the negative pressure when adjusting the negative pressure based on the thickness of a workpiece in a punch press having a scrap suction device constituting a scrap-up preventive mechanism, to allow the workpiece to follow the unmanned continuous operation, to facilitate fine adjustment of the negative pressure, and to solve any trouble that the workpiece is sucked by a die by always keeping the scrap suction force at a constant value even if the punching shape area is changed when the workpiece is punched. SOLUTION: A negative pressure control device in a punch press includes a table 40C consisting of thickness information on a workpiece W as an object to be worked, and the rotational frequency corresponding each thickness information, a rotational frequency determining means 40D for determining the rotational frequency corresponding to the inputted thickness information by referring to the table 40C, and a motor control means 40E for controlling the rotational speed of a motor M for driving a fan 16A constituting a negative pressure generating device 16.
