The invention relates to a method of deactivating one or more functions available on an integrated circuit comprising at least one processor, a memory and several functions for processing, encrypting and transmitting data, the method comprising a step of selecting the functions to be deactivated, and a step of deactivating said functions. It also relates to a method of selecting a level of performance of said circuit, by configuring the frequency of its internal clock. The invention is characterized in that the steps of selection and deactivation are implemented by the user, who is a manufacturer of a product incorporating said circuit, different from the manufacturer of the circuit, and by a step of transmitting, via a communication network, to an item of equipment, for example a server, accessible by the manufacturer of the circuit, an item of information representative of the functions actually active for the product manufacturer user.
