Use of a catalyst to reduce the particle size and/or compsn. in the exhaust gas of a diesel engine is claimed, in which the catalyst is a combination of zeolite of acidic props. and one or more transition metal oxides and/or oxides of rare earths. The zeolite is esp. a zeolite of dealmuniate of faujasite, or of pentasil-type, or of mordenite-type. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst reduces the particle size and/or compsn. in diesel engine exhaust gas without oxidises SO2 to sulphates.
