PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor composition that has good afterglow characteristics while emitting red light. SOLUTION: The phosphor composition includes (Ln<SB>1-x</SB>Eu<SB>x</SB>)MO<SB>3</SB>, wherein 0.00001≤x≤0.01; Ln are elements comprising one or two or more of La, Y, Gd and Lu; and M are elements comprising one or two of Al and Ga. Further, in the phosphor composition, total 0.0003-0.02 mol of a metallic element including Ti, Ge, or Ta as a metallic element having a valence of more than three, for example, a tetravalent or pentavalent metallic element is added to 1 mol of (Ln<SB>1-x</SB>Eu<SB>x</SB>)MO<SB>3</SB>.
