The method involves producing a single fiber (1) from a synthetic quartz glass in a fiber drawing process by elongating a quartz glass cylinder (2). An end of a cladding is sealed after inserting the single fiber into the cladding, where the single fiber projects from the end of the cladding, which is formed from a plastic material. A fiber intermediate space is filled with fluid exhibiting refractive index smaller than refractive index of the glass of the single fiber. The fluid is filled in a mantle of the cladding over an opening after sealing the end of the cladding. An independent claim is also included for a fiber bundle comprising a cladding.
