PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual mode image processing device that selectively uses both erasable paper and non-erasable paper for image processing. SOLUTION: A dual mode image processing system 200 includes: an input 220 for supplying at least one of erasable paper 100 and non-erasable paper 104 as a medium; an image processing subsystem 240 for performing image processing on the non-erasable paper 104; a heating subsystem 250 for selectively heating the input medium to one of an erasing temperature and an image processing temperature, according to a type of image processing operation; a cooling subsystem 270 for selectively cooling the erased medium 100 to the image processing temperature; and a write subsystem 260 for performing image processing on the erased paper 100.
