The planter consists of a wheel (210) with peripheral planting tools (212), able to rotate on one end of a supporting arm (220), the other end of which is pivoted to a shaft (102) which is pivoted to the machine's frame perpendicular to the direction of travel. The forward pivot of the arm is controlled by a counterweight (230) which enables the wheel's pressure on the ground to be varied. The planting tools (212) are shaped to place the plants in the soil through the plastics film layer (F) and are inclined slightly towards the rear to facilitate their removal from the film. The wheel has a double rim for extra strength and resistance to deformation and contains a chamber which acts as a water reservoir, while the counterweight can slide along a beam (232) situated above the wheel's supporting arm (220). Behind the wheel the machine has a seat (330) for an operative whose job is to place the plants in the planting tools as they rotate on the wheel. ADVANTAGE - Enables plants to be inserted through mulching film at the same time as the film is laid.
