The method involves folding a cloth of supernatant (61) in a direction of a polygonal shaped mandrel. A base element (5) is fed to a mandrel end (15). The folded cloth is joined with the base element. A produced polygonal shaped package (16) of the mandrel of a mandrel wheel (2) is removed. Two folding seams are flattened between four adjacent side surfaces of the package such that the folding seams and the side surfaces are coincided in two common planes, respectively. A quadrilateral cross sectional shape is formed at the mandrel end. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing a polygonal shaped package.
