The transmission has an oil sump in which a lubricant i.e. lubricating oil, is accommodated. A gear set, a shaft and gear wheels are rotatably accommodated in the oil sump. Closing plates (30, 32, 34) adjust a level of the lubricant in the oil sump depending on an operating parameter of the transmission. The gear set, the shaft and the gear wheels are switchable for variably adjusting the level of the lubricant depending on the temperature of the lubricant and formed as a switchable valve i.e. magnetic valve.
