The method involves reducing the delay of the motor vehicle by an electronic controller in push operation. A throttle flap is adjusted depending on the speed and the momentarily engaged gear movement in the direction of opening position either in an operating mode or the coupling is released in the other operating mode. An independent claim is also included for a drive unit for execution of the method.
