<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating method of by-product gas easily increasing the calorific value of the by-product gas without mixing other fuel gas. <P>SOLUTION: The by-product gas secondarily generated in the iron making and/or steel making stage, is made to bubble in a calcium hydroxide aqueous solution to react calcium hydroxide with carbon dioxide in the by-product gas to remove carbon dioxide from the by-product gas.
