Distillate fuel boiling in the range 120<o> C to 500 DEG C containing 0.001 to 0.5 wt% of a compound of the general formula <CHEM> in which -Y-R<2> is -SO3(-)(+)NR<3>3R<2>, -SO3(-)(+)HNR<3>2R<2>, -SO3(-)(+)H2NR<3>R<2>, -SO3(-)(+)H3NR<2>, -SO2NR<3>R<2> or -SO3R<2>; -X-R<1> is -Y-R<2> or -CONR<3>R<1>, -CO2(-)(+)NR<3>3R<1>, -CO2(-)(+)HNR<3>2R<1>, -CO2<(-)(+)>H2NR<3>R<1>, -CO2(-)(+)H3NR<1>, -R<4>-COOR1, -NR<3>COR<1>, -R<4>OR<1>, -R<4>OCOR<1>, -R<4>R<1>, -N(COR<3>)R<1> or Z(-)(+)NR<3>3R<1>; -Z(-) is SO3<(-)> or -CO2<(-)>; R<1> and R<2> are alkyl, alkoxy alkyl or polyalkoxy alkyl containing at least 10 carbon atoms in the main chain; R<3> is hydrocarbyl and each R<3> may be the same or different and R<4> is nothing or is C1 to C5 alkylene and in <CHEM> the carbon-carbon (C-C) bond is either a) ethylenically unsaturated when A and B may be alkyl, alkenyl or substituted hydrocarbyl groups or b) part of a cyclic structure which may be aromatic, polynuclear aromatic or cyclo aliphatic. |
