PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve discharge capacity in a negative electrode material in order to further improve electric performance of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery.

SOLUTION: This is a negative electrode material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which contains a negative electrode active material capable of doping and dedoping of lithium ion and carboxylate of alkali metal and/or carboxylate of alkaline earth metal, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery equipped with this is provided. It is preferable that the negative electrode active material has graphite and/or a carbon material inferior in crystallinity than graphite as a main component, and that the carboxylate of alkali metal is sodium acetate.
