<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate map data smoothly displaying scaling processing that changes scale of a map. <P>SOLUTION: In a device for generating map data, nodes of shape data of the same object correspond to each other between map data different in scale, to obtain nodes generated by linearly interpolating the nodes, and generate variable-scale map data by using the shape data formed from the nodes.
