PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy plate blank improved in moldability to an energy absorbing member for an automobile. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy plate blank partially has a soft part (4) with respect to hard steady parts (2, 5), and is press-molded in the energy absorbing member for the automobile composed of a cylindrical part and a flange at its periphery. A peripheral edge of an oblique line corresponding to the flange of the energy absorbing member for the automobile is formed as the soft part (4) by heating and quenching treatment.
