A portable display device small enough to be held by one hand enters a state which accepts gestures when a thumb (Ftl) of one hand that is holding the device presses a central vicinity fixed coordinate position of the left display unit (14a) and right display unit (14b), and then, by way of a gesture entered by the forefinger (Ffr) of the other hand, accepts a command for performing, for example, page-turning processing. As a result, a preferred operation input interface is achieved for a two-screen display screen, wherein holding the two-screen portable display device causes a command-accepting state to be entered naturally, enabling gesture recognition, whereas when the portable display device is not held, a non-command-accepting state is entered, allowing erroneous execution of a command caused by unintended contact with the display screen to be prevented.
