摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a fired aluminum titanate body by firing a molded body of a starting material mixture, the method allowing a preferable mechanical strength to be kept even after binder is burnt off upon firing, therefore, suppressing the occurrence of a defect such as cracking during firing and producing a fired aluminum titanate body having a desired shape with a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The method of producing fired aluminum titanate body includes a process of firing the molded body of the starting material mixture that contains aluminum source powder, titanium source powder and magnesium source powder, wherein a BET specific surface area of the magnesium source powder is 2.0 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more and 30.0 m<SP>2</SP>/g or less.
