OPTICAL PHASE MODULATOR AND OPTICAL PHASE MODULATION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical phase modulator which can reduce influence of frequency chirping due to an orthogonal component generated by light absorption of a semiconductor and to provide an optical phase modulation device.

SOLUTION: An optical modulator 100 includes a main Mach-Zehnder interferometer 11 having first and second main arm optical waveguides 11a and 11b having initial phase difference ofπin a usage wavelength, a first sub Mach-Zehnder interferometer 21 having first and second sub arm optical waveguides 21a and 21b formed in the first main arm optical waveguide 11a and having initial phase difference of 0 in the usage wavelength and a second sub Mach-Zehnder interferometer 22 having a third and fourth sub arm optical waveguides 22a and 22b formed in the second main arm optical waveguide and having initial phase difference of 0 in the usage wavelength. At least high frequency electrode formed portions of the main arm optical waveguides and the first to fourth sub arm optical waveguides are made of semiconductor optical waveguides.
