PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that when a cylindrical roller and a transfer belt are rotated in contact with each other, vibration caused in a stepped portion is transmitted to the transfer belt, and if a primary transfer section is vibrated, an image in the course of primary transfer is disturbed, with the result that the vibration is transmitted from the primary transfer section to a latent image carrier, and ends up disturbing a latent image formed by an exposure section. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: the latent image carrier 11; a developing section 20; the transfer belt 40; a tension roller 30 for applying tension to the transfer belt 40; a drive roller 50; a transfer roller 61 having a recessed part 63, disposed opposite the drive roller 50 via the transfer belt 40, and provided to transfer an image, which is transferred to the transfer belt 40, to a transfer material S in contact with the transfer belt 40 to which tension has been applied by the tension roller 30; and a transfer belt cleaning blade 52 disposed in contact with the drive roller 50 via the transfer belt 40, and serving as a cleaning section for cleaning the transfer belt 40.
