The device has a friction lining support e.g. brake lining support (2), positively connected to a shaft (4) in circumferential direction. The support comprises a friction lining e.g. brake lining, cooperating with a counter braking surface of a part (3) during braking or coupling. Permanent magnets are provided to produce eddy currents in a relative moved part. An armature disk (1) is axially movably arranged on guide rods that are fastened to coil cores. Spring elements are provided between the cores and disk to produce force acting against a magnetic field during current feed of the coil.
