PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mortar excavator for use in excavation of a mortar layer constituting a slab track of a railroad, which can be used even for the slab track with a narrow excavation location while securing sufficient cutting depth, which improves operability, and which achieves miniaturization and weight reduction. SOLUTION: This mortar excavator 11 includes a vertically-elongated drive shaft 14c, and an excavating blade 14d which is supported by a lower end of the drive shaft and rotated for excavation around the drive shaft; the excavating blade 14d comprises a first shank which is constituted coaxially with the drive shaft and rotated by undergoing power from the drive shaft, a second shank which is located in a position to horizontally deviate from the first shank and rotated on the axis parallel to the first shank, and a caterpillar which is looped over the first and second shanks and which has a peripherally-formed cutting edge; and the second shank is located in a first position parallel to the first shank along the direction of elongation of a rail 3 laid on the slab track, and a second position to deviate in the width direction of the rail with respect to the first shank.
