PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and inexpensive semiconductor AC switch resistant to multiple-lightning strokes and the like without using a complexed control. SOLUTION: The semiconductor AC switch is configured with two thyristor elements 3, 4 connected in antiparallel between an AC power supply and a load and includes an arc-extinguishing circuit 30 generating an arc-extinguishing current that forces the thyristor elements 3, 4 to extinguish an arc in order to instantaneously break between the power supply side and the load side, wherein the arc-extinguishing circuit 30 includes an LC resonance circuit 31 including a reactor 32 and a capacitor 33 and four groups of arc-extinguishing current thyristor switch parts 36 provided to the LC resonance circuit 31 and connecting two arc-extinguishing current thyristor elements 34<SB>1</SB>-34<SB>4</SB>, 35<SB>1</SB>-35<SB>4</SB>in antiparallel.
