PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc type discharge lamp, with a pair of cathode an anode arranged opposing each other in an arc tube, having an electrode structure for avoiding blackening of the lamp due to the evaporation of an electrode material by preventing protrusion of the front-end center of the anode from its surrounding annular portion, particularly, during full-standby light-on when repeating normal light-on at rated power and standby light-on at a smaller power. SOLUTION: A recess is formed in the front-end face of the anode, and an insert formed of the same material as that for the anode is inserted into the recess, and a space is formed between the rear end of the insert and the recess.
