PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode structure, in a short arc type discharge lamp in which a pair of a cathode and an anode are placed to face each other in an arc tube, in which blackening of the lamp does not occur by evaporation of an electrode material without protruding a center of a tip of the anode rather than a periphery annular section thereof, particularly during full standby lighting in which normal lighting with rated power and standby lighting in which lighting is performed with electric power smaller than it are repeated. SOLUTION: The short arc type discharge lamp is characterized in that a buffer material including a material of which yield stress is lower than that of an electrode material is made to exist between the tip center of an anode tip and the periphery annular section, and thermal stress of the tip center is reduced by the buffer material.
