PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove air in a fuel circuit while preventing the vaporization of DME (Dimethyl Ether) when starting a DME engine. SOLUTION: A starting method for the DME engine consists of a cooler starting step which starts fuel coolers for cooling a fuel in a supply line and return line, a line opening step which opens the supply line, a pump starting step which starts a high pressure pump after the line opening step, a purge step which opens the supply line to the atmosphere until a pressure difference between a third pressure sensor and second pressure sensor is a predetermined pressure difference or higher and the pressure at a fourth pressure sensor is a predetermined pressure or higher after the pump starting step, a temperature drop waiting step which waits until the temperature of the fuel detected by a fourth temperature sensor is lower than a predetermined temperature after the cooler starting step, and a starter starting step which starts a starter for the engine after the completion of the purge step and temperature drop waiting step.
