The component (1) has a photocell (16) provided for converting the energy contained in the heat radiation (14) emitted by an internal combustion engine (10) into electricity. The component has laminar extension so that the heat radiation from the engine or an engine component (12) i.e. exhaust manifold, is partly shieldable. The photocell is made of semiconductor material with a band gap of less than 1.0 electron-volt. The photocell is provided with an anti-reflection layer on a surface that is turned towards the engine.
