摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalyst with which superior power generation characteristics can be exhibited when it is applied to a fuel cell while reducing used amount of platinum rather than a conventional platinum carbon catalyst, and to provide a method for manufacturing the electrode catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The electrode catalyst for the fuel cell includes a composite body which carries platinum 2 or platinum alloy 2 on a carrier constituted of carbon 3 and at least one kind of metal compound 4 selected from metal carbide and metal oxide, and a specific surface area of platinum 2 or platinum alloy 2 calculated by measuring the composite body by a cyclic voltammetry method is 350 cm<SP>2</SP>/mg-Pt or more. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
