<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load test method and a damage detection method that can detect a strain with a simple configuration and use a strain detection technique that can deal with a predetermined amount of strain. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention is a test method for testing the characteristics of a columnar test object by loading compressive or tensile force on the test object. Three or more electrodes are placed at distances from one another on the edge of a strain detecting section made of conductive rubber, and a strain detection apparatus is used which specifies the position of a deformation in the strain detecting section by measuring electrical resistance individually between each of the electrodes and another.
