PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating film forming method for forming a coating film having high brightness and high chroma to be adaptable for various kinds of industrial products, particularly a car body or a fuel tank of a motorcycle and having the feeling of silky material having the brightness and color tone gradually changed from highlight (vicinity of regular reflection) to shade (oblique direction). SOLUTION: Provided is the coating film forming method in which a color base coating film having L*value of≥70 in L*a*b* color system, a metallic coating film containing a scale-like luster pigment and a color clear coating film containing a transparent color pigment are formed in order, and the coating film forming method wherein the scale-like luster pigment is one formed by coating a transparent scale-like base material with a metal oxide, is also provided.
