725,159. Chucks. JACOBS MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 4, 1953 [Feb. 27, 1952], No. 3145/53. Class 83 (3). A chuck collet assemblage comprises metal jaws 10 secured together by downwardly - extending arms 22 of a ring 20 of non-metallic elastic material, such as natural or synthetic rubber, the ring being tightly fitted on a flanged metal plug 11 located rearwardly of the jaws and the arms leaving the space between the jaws unobstructed or nearly unobstructed. Each jaw is held by a pair of arms 22, Fig. 1, joined together through a transverse hole 12 in the jaw without being bonded to the jaw or, as shown in Fig. 6, a single arm 22a for each jaw is of T-section extending into the hole 12 through a hole 16. The collet is made by placing the jaws in the mould in which the ring 20 and arms 22 are formed. The plug 11 has a recess 14 to receive the end of a screwed rod 31 by which the collet can be forced into the cone 30 of the chuck. |
