摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which is low in electric power consumption and is high in efficiency, and its driving method. <P>SOLUTION: The electric power consumption of the display device 1 is suppressed by detecting a peak value of video data, and adjusting a cathode voltage Vc of an organic EL element 11 by a variable voltage source 8 based on the detection data to reduce the potential difference between a power source voltage VDD and the cathode voltage Vc. More particularly the electric power consumption can be reduced with substantially no degradation in display luminance by adjusting the cathode voltage Vc within a range where the operating point exists in a saturation region of a driving transistor 14 for driving the organic EL element 11, i.e., an anode voltage of the organic EL element exists. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
