The burner has a reservoir for containing liquid or gel type fuel such as ethyl alcohol or ethanol. A blocking or extinction unit prevents lighting or stops combustion according to conditions or defined parameters. The blocking or extinction unit is provided with a mobile trap door that releases or closes an opening giving access to the reservoir. A carbon dioxide detector is arranged in the burner. The trap door is moved between an upper plate (19) of a fuel volume (18) and an upper plate of a case (12).
