A system for generating electric energy from renewable energy sources is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of generator aggregates and a plurality of switchgear arranged in the sea. Each of the switchgear is connected to a plurality of the generator aggregates. The system further includes a plurality of primary intermediate stations and at least one secondary intermediate station, where each primary intermediate station is connected to a plurality of the switchgear. At least one secondary intermediate station is connected to a plurality of primary intermediate stations and to a land based electric network. The system includes switching means allowing selective connection of the at least one secondary intermediate station to various locations in the electric network.
