The system (1) has a supercharger (9) provided with a variable geometry turbine (11). The variable geometry turbine comprises fan blades (22) with an actuator (23) to modify orientation of the fan blades. A measuring unit measures supercharging pressure. An estimation unit (40) estimates reference supercharging pressure. A detection unit (42) comprises a calculation unit (43) to calculate a difference between the reference supercharging pressure estimation and the supercharging pressure measurement. A comparison unit (44) compares the difference with a supercharging defect threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an intake air supercharging device of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
