PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for displaying a 3D image which determines which of a plane image signal and a 3D image signal is used for generating an input image signal from the image signal; and a method of displaying a 3D image.SOLUTION: This device for displaying a 3D image includes: an image coincidence degree detection part 11 for detecting whether right and left images coincide with each other when an input image signal is laterally bisected; an image change degree detection part 12 for detecting whether the change of a pixel value is present in the image signal by comparing pixel values of pixels of the image signal separated at a predetermined distance from each other on a predetermined pixel distance basis; and an image determination part 13 for determining whether the image signal is a 3D image signal based on the detection result detected by the image coincidence degree detection part and the detection result detected by the image change degree detection part.
