To provide an active sonar device having low manufacturing cost, capable of suppressing the number of microphones to two, and localizing a target position with a comparatively small operation quantity. ! A control/operation part 1 determines the distance to the target, from the time required for receiving echoes from radiation of a search sound of a transmitter 4. A sound pressure ratio between an echo waveform A and an echo waveform B of a microphone A(2) and a microphone B(3) is calculated, and a vertical direction of the target is determined from the calculation result. A combined echo waveform, when the microphone A(2) and the microphone B(3) are used virtually as one microphone is operated, by adding the echo waveforms A, B together, and further, the sum of the echo waveforms A, B when adding a time difference +ϕ and the sum of the echo waveforms A, B when adding a time difference -ϕ are determined; and the ratio of each sound pressure value of the waveforms of each result is calculated, to thereby determine a horizontal direction of the target. !
