PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-swaging-load fastening system to be used for installing a swage type fastener.SOLUTION: The swage type fastener includes a pin member 12 having a slender pin handle. An enlarged head 22 at one end of the pin engages with one of workpieces 18, 20. A pin portion having a groove 26 extends over the opposite side of the workpiece. A collar 14 has a shank portion 24 which is adaptably swaged into the lock groove of the pin depending on a relatively axial swaging load output by an installation tool. In one embodiment of the system, the collar remaining forged without requiring heat treatment is used while keeping an optimum balance between the thickness and the hardness of the shank wall of the collar to minimize the swaging load. A low-swaging-load threaded shape is also provided for the lock groove of the pin, and a relatively shorter tensile portion having a small radius, an improved installation tool, and these using methods are also disclosed. |
