IMAGING INFECTION USING FLUORESCENT PROTEIN AS MARKER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for expanding a technology developed in imaging of growth and metastasis of a tumor to a study of infection.SOLUTION: A method to follow a progress of infection in a vertebrate subject utilizes pathogens altered to express a fluorescent protein, and observes an existence, a non-existence or an intensity of fluorescence at various positions as a function of time. The method enables also monitoring of an expression of genes associated with the pathogens in an infection process. The method further includes tumor targeting with the altered pathogens.
