The tool (1) has an upper part (2) including a knife carrier (4) and a knife (5). A lower part (3) is provided with a support plate. The upper and lower parts are designed and arranged such that the knife and the knife carrier move on top of each other during performing punching stroke for producing blanks. The support plate has a slot like opening, where the design and the arrangement of the opening correspond to the design and arrangement of the knife such that the knife enters into the opening during the performing punching stroke.
