PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fabric that develops excellent stretchability in spite of having practical strength and elasticity and is substantially composed of elastic fibers.SOLUTION: A method for producing a stretchable fabric composed of substantially elastic fibers includes subjecting a mixed fabric composed of an easily alkali-soluble fiber and elastic fiber to an alkali weight reduction processing and substantially completely dissolving the easily alkali-soluble fiber. Preferably the easily alkali-soluble fiber is a sulfo-isophthalic acid copolymerized polyethylene terephthalate fiber or polylactic acid fiber.
