PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a luminous material excellent in an afterglow property and having high brightness.SOLUTION: This method for producing the luminous material, comprising mixing a material for forming the matrix crystals of the luminous material with a powder of an activator and a powder of an activation auxiliary, and heating the mixture in a non-oxidative atmosphere to solid-dissolve metal ions constituting the activator and the activation auxiliary in the matrix crystals, is characterized in that the activator is nano size EuO produced by reducing EuOhaving nano size particle diameters at high temperature with a reducing agent comprising a metal having an oxygen-binding force (reducing force) which is larger than that of EuO and equal to or less than that of Eu. |
