The carrier (4) has a support ring (3) provided for reducing flexible and/or inelastic deformations of a hollow cylindrical part of the carrier by a radially inwardly arranged form-fit connection of the support ring and the carrier, where the cylindrical part retains a wheel bearing. The form-fit connection of the support ring is partially provided with the carrier in an axial direction. The support ring is attached on a cylindrical exterior surface of the carrier. The carrier is made of soft material such as aluminum and the support ring is made of hard material such as steel. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a wheel bearing in a lightweight construction wheel carrier.
