PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbon fiber, contributing to the improvement of productivity without damaging the processability when producing the carbon fiber.SOLUTION: The method for producing the carbon fiber includes extruding a spinning dope composed of a polyacrylonitrile-based polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of ≥6 from a cap, fiberizing the dope by dry spinning, drawing the resultant fiber at a whole draw ratio of 20-120 times to afford a polyacrylonitrile-based fiber, flame-proofing the obtained polyacrylonitrile fiber in air within a temperature range of 200-300°C, previously carbonizing the flame-proofed fiber in an inert atmosphere at a temperature of 300-800°C, and successively subjecting the resultant fiber to carbonization treatment at a temperature within a range of 800-2,000°C in the inert atmosphere. |
