PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical fiber cable that prevents breakage of a sheath in occurrence of water infiltration without increasing the outer diameter of the cable, and has no problem in the aspect of cost.SOLUTION: In the optical fiber cable, a water-absorbing tape layer is formed on the outer circumference of a cable core and a sheath is provided on the outer circumference of the water-absorbing tape layer. The maximum stress σ on the inner surface of the sheath when purified water has entered into the sheath satisfies the relationship represented by the following formula (1): σ=p(D-t)2t<(yield point strength of sheath material). In the formula, D represents the outer diameter of the sheath; t represents the thickness of the sheath; and p represents the pressure on the inner surface-side of the sheath. |
