The invention relates to a method for treating sulfur oxide-containing waste gases resulting from technical processes, especially for treating waste gases resulting from the production of pig iron and/or steel by sintering (2) of iron ores and subsequent production of pig iron (3) in a blast furnace process, for the removal and/or separation of the sulfur oxides or for the reduction of the sulfur oxide content. According to said method, the sulfur oxide-containing waste gases resulting from the production of pig iron and/or steel in the process step of sintering the iron ores (2) and in the process step of the production of pig iron (3) carried out downstream thereof are subjected to a separate waste gas treatment (4, 5), especially a desulfurization step, using at least one waste gas treating agent, especially a desulfurization agent. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method.
