Provided is a surface mount crystal oscillator capable of suppressing chronological change of a frequency property. A surface mount crystal oscillator (1) comprises a crystal plate (2) with a frame wherein an oscillating unit (6) is provided, on its opposite main surfaces, with first and second excitation electrodes (5a, 5b), and surrounded by a frame (7), and the oscillating unit (6) and the frame (7) are connected by connecting portions (8a, 8b); a base (3); and a cover (4). A main surface, which faces the base (3), of the frame (7) is divided at two portions in the circumferential direction of the frame (7) to define two areas, and a first metal film (17) is formed on one of the two areas and a second metal film (18) is formed on the other area. The first metal film (17) is electrically connected to the first excitation electrode (5a), and the second metal film (18) is electrically connected to the second excitation electrode (5b). The frame (7) and the base (3) are connected by a sealing material (20) formed on the surfaces of the first metal film (17) and the second metal film (18). A gap area (19) between the first metal film (17) and the second film (18) is embedded with glass (21) in which the oscillating unit (6) is hermetically sealed. |
