The method involves measuring an operating point of a mixer (22) by a subtraction element (28), a threshold value comparator (30), a multiplier and a measuring resistor, where the mixer mixes radar signals with reference signals. Presence of a loss source is detected by a displacement of the operating point. Error signals are output by the subtraction element, the threshold value comparator, the multiplier and the measuring resistor when displacement of the operating point exceeds a threshold value in relation to a normal value. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system comprising a radar sensor.
