DISPLAY DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD

A display device (200) divides a reduced image into a plurality of regions so that a region far from a light source (220) is larger than a region near to the light source (220) and compares luminance values of respective pixels contained in a direction vertical to the arrangement direction in each of the divided regions so as to select a pixel having a maximum luminance value to generate line information.  The display device (200) compares a light emission distribution obtained by synthesizing the light emission pattern of the each light source (220) with the luminance distribution of each line information, thereby adjusting the light emission intensity of each light source.
