PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a path continuity confirming method between ATM nodes by which a maintenance personnel can confirm the normality of a path continuity state between the ATM nodes, and to provide an ATM network system. SOLUTION: An NMS 3 transmits character string data to an ATM node 1. The ATM node 1 transmits the character string data, received from the NMS 3 to an ATM node 2, and the ATM node 2 transmits the received character string data to the NMS 3. The NMS 3 collates the character string data sent to the ATM node 1 with the character string data received from the ATM node 2 and judges path continuity state, on the basis of the result of collation.
