The present invention refers to protein Ssu05_0473 and protein Ssu05_0272 or immunogenic derivatives thereof for use as a medicament, in particular for use as a medicament against Streptococcus suis colonization or infection in humans and animals. The present invention also refers to a vaccine comprising at least one of said proteins or immunogenic derivatives thereof, to a method for the diagnosis of bacterial infections using said proteins or immunogenic derivatives thereof and to a kit for the diagnosis of Streptococcus suis infections.
